A winter wonderland is headed our way
Meteorologist: April Madison
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Don't let these clear skies fool you. Wind, rain, and snow, yes snow, is on the way. Timing for this system looks to move into southeast Arizona around 11 PM Thursday, and continue all day Friday.
Southerly winds will also be picking up Thursday in advance of this system. A Wind Advisory has been posted for Cochise County where the strongest winds can be anticipated. Expect sustained winds up to 40 mph, and gusts in the 50s. Tucson will also see strong winds, between 15 and 25 mph.
Snow on the mountains will be heavy at times, thus a Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 11 PM Thursday night and continues all day Friday. Between 6 and 11 inches of snow can be expected above 5000 feet, and up to 18 inches above 7000 feet. The highest peaks of the White Mountains, Mount Graham, and Mount Lemmon could even receive 24 inches of snow.
