TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A 23-year-old man is dead following an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning.

Sgt. Maria Hawke tells KGUN9 that Tucson Police responded to the 3700 block of east Dodge, near Blacklidge and Dodge after an officer had followed a car that he believed matched the description of an armed robber.

Hawke says Willie Davis Jr., who was armed, robbed a 7-Eleven at 3501 E. Grant Road just a few minutes before. Davis got into his car and took off.  Officers chased him into an alley of off Blacklidge, where both Davis and the officer following exited their vehicles.

Davis tried to run away and pointed a handgun at the officer who fired several gunshots at Davis.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers learned Davis had been staying with family in Tucson after traveling from Arkansas last November.

Police say all signs indicate the deceased man was involved in a string of ten armed robberies that happened early Thursday.

The man was also wanted in connection with three armed robberies in the county.

The homicide unit and the Office of Internal Affairs responded to the scene to investigate and as is department procedure, there will be an administrative review into the shooting.
