Pedestrian killed last week identified
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A man who died after he was struck by a pickup truck in a dark intersection Saturday night has been identified as 50-year old Roberto V. Romero.
TPD responded to the intersection of West 22nd Street and South 8th Avenue at around 7:45 p.m. Saturday after a motor vehicle struck a pedestrian, according to Sgt. Maria Hawke with the Tucson Police Department.
Once on scene, officers discovered a 50-year-old Hispanic man lying in the roadway and suffering from obvious signs of trauma, Hawke said.
Hawke tells KGUN9 that emergency medical technicians responded to the scene to assist the man, but they ultimately pronounced him dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit responded to investigate the cause of the incident.
After collecting evidence and talking to witnesses, detectives learned that the victim had been walking northbound across 22nd Street when he was struck by a white Ford F250 pickup truck that was traveling westbound on 22nd Street, according to Hawke.
Hawke says detectives were unable to determine whether the victim was walking in a crosswalk at the time of the incident. However, they did notice that there were no operating streetlights at the intersection and the victim was wearing dark clothing, according to Hawke.
The driver and occupants of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police have not issued a citation at this time, Hawke says.
