Tucson (KQTH-FM) - In an affirmation that students should continue to enjoy access to a fresh weekday lunch during the teachers’ walk-out that is causing school closures across Arizona, the local owners of all of Tucson’s Jimmy John’s Sandwich Shops announced today that they will offer free “slim” sandwiches to every student from kindergarten through 12th grade. The special Sandwiches for Students program will be available from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on Friday, April 27.
“While the debate over education funding continues this week, what has the potential for being stuck in the balance is student access to a fresh and nutritious lunch,” said Nick Schaffer, who owns eight of the local Jimmy John’s franchises with his wife Alison. “For most students, school campuses are the venues for their midday meal, and we want to provide an option for kids in our community who may not be on school grounds this Friday,” he continued.
The special is available to all K-12 students in the Tucson area, age 18 and under, with a valid school-issued identification card. There is a limit of one “slim” sandwich per student. Deliveries are not included in the program as orders must be placed in person to qualify.
